Brr! The weather seems to be staying unusually chilly this year, and as 2020 comes into full swing, we’re finding that it’s not time to pack up our hats and scarves just yet. We’re guessing Punxsutawney Phil will be declaring a longer winter when February rolls around! As you hopefully know by now, different seasons call for different skincare routines; although Florida’s fall and winter seasons are milder overall, the colder weather still affects our skin.
Is your skin feeling itchy, tight, or dry this winter season? Sounds like it needs a little extra TLC. Here are some of our best tips to keep your skin healthy, happy, and comfortable during this extended winter season:
- Stay hydrated. This seems like it would be the perfect skincare tip for the summer, but it’s just as applicable to winter regimens, as well. Cold weather is dryer, making water evaporate from the surface of our skin faster and leaving our skin feeling tight and itchy. Be sure you’re drinking an adequate amount of water every day, and consider investing in a humidifier for your home.
- Keep it gentle. This is not the time to go for heavy-duty, harsh, or abrasive cleansers. To be honest, we don’t recommend being rough with your skin at any time, but the winter months require a little extra delicacy. Opt for gentle cleansers that don’t strip your skin of moisture, and ones that aren’t loaded with fragrances, dyes, or other additives. As a rule of thumb: the blander, the better.
- Pump up your moisturizer game. This may seem like a no-brainer, but make sure you’re using thicker, more powerful facial and body moisturizers this winter. The best time to apply your moisturizers is right after the shower or right after you wash your face, when your pores are open and can lock in all that added hydration. Side note - make sure you’re not taking extra-hot showers to help boost your moisture game even more!
Sometimes it feels like this winter will never be over! We don’t know about you, but we’re ready for longer nights, brighter days, and a little extra sunshine. Still, with these winter skincare tips, you’ll keep your skin healthy and nourished while you wait for warmer days.
